Hyalite Opals

Hyalite opal, also known as glass opal or water opal, is a type of opal that is valued for its unique appearance and optical properties. Unlike most opals, hyalite opal does not display the typical play of color or iridescence seen in other opal varieties. Instead, it has a glassy or transparent appearance with a colorless to pale yellow or greenish hue. This material is UV reactive and glows a bright green color.

The name "hyalite" comes from the Greek word "hyalos," which means glass. This name accurately reflects the gemstone's glass-like appearance. Hyalite opal is composed of silica, similar to other opals, but it lacks the regular arrangement of silica spheres that cause the play of color seen in precious opals.
