Purple Dendritic Opal, a variety of opal found in Madagascar. This opal is characterized by its captivating purple base color, often ranging from pale lavender to deep violet, and the presence of distinct dendritic patterns. Dendrites are branching, tree-like or fern-like mineral inclusions that form within the host rock. In the case of Dendritic Opal, these patterns are typically composed of manganese or iron oxides. 2  These minerals, dissolved in groundwater, seep into the cracks and fissures of the opal during its formation. As the water evaporates, the manganese or iron oxides crystallize, creating the intricate dendritic patterns that spread across the opal's surface.
